You see, Americans are conditioned by a consumer culture that thrives on instant gratification and superficial appeal. Our art market is flooded with pop culture icons, flashy advertisements, and media that cater to our quick-fix mentality. We’ve been sold the idea that art should be as easy to digest as a fast-food meal, with a nice, clear message that fits neatly into our preconceived notions. Anything more complex or challenging is often dismissed as too “highbrow” or, worse, “offensive.”
